Tune in Tuesday is one of my favorite features! It's hosted by Ginger at GReads! and helps bring attention to new and/or old songs or artists. Music makes my little world go round, and I love sharing what I like and finding new music through this feature.
December is Concert Edition!
This week, I'm featuring a band that I would sell my soul to see live: Blue October. Sometimes a band's music will come to mean so much to you, and that's how it is for me with Blue October. On just a surface level, their songs are great. When you really start to pay attention, not only is the music amazing and the lyrics will blow your mind. Some are great to rock out to and others will break your heart with beautiful lyrics. Justin Furstenfeld, the lead singer, is so bold with his music. He's not afraid to share about his experience and struggles with mental illness, suicide, and addiction. This is what has made me love Blue October on a more personal level.
Last year, I was in outpatient rehab for narcotic addiction. I was devastated at the time and felt like a failure. I had to drive 30 minutes to get to the treatment facility and for the first week I would blast Blue October and cry. As the stuff I was hearing in treatment started sinking in, I started to relate to more of Blue October's music. I listened to it every time I drove to and from treatment for 3 months, and it helped me have the courage to keep going. 20 months later and I'm still going strong!! I also know that I'm NOT a failure and have, in fact, succeeded on a very big level.
I would love to experience Blue October's music live. I think they would put on such a kick ass show! They're coming to Biloxi, Mississippi next spring and I'm determined to make that happen!! Here are some of my favorite Blue October songs.
"Into the Ocean"
"Calling You"
"18th Floor Balcony"

I've heard a little by them and so far like what I hear. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of you Molly for sharing this with us, and even more proud of you for how far you've come. Music can be such a therapeutic experience and it sounds like Blue October has helped in your healing process. I hope you get the chance to see them live. They put on a really great show.
